The upcoming series already has an A-list cast.
Martin Scorsese 's film career has spanned six decades, during which time he has been involved in nearly a hundred projects. Lists of his best works often include Raging Bull and Taxi Driver, but many forget another worthy project – Cape Fear.
Among Martin Scorsese's early works, Cape Fear stands out: there is no controversial antihero, the action does not take place in New York, and the sophisticated auteur style gives way to genre craft.
However, the involvement of Robert De Niro and his powerful performance make the movie surprisingly dark. And the final scenes, in which the villain appears under a thunderclap, are reminiscent of old slashers in the spirit of A Nightmare on Elm Street.
The Cape Fear Series Is Now in Development at Apple
The era of reboots has reached Cape Fear – Nick Antosca is bringing a remake of the 1991 film to Apple TV+ as a ten-part series. Steven Spielberg and Scorsese himself will produce the show – they both worked on the original film more than 30 years ago.
Recently it became known that Javier Bardem, who will portray Max Cady, was joined by Amy Adams – she will play the role of lawyer Anna Bowden. The woman and her husband – also a lawyer – will face the dangerous killer Cady.
1991's Cape Fear Was Also Not an Original Movie
Scorsese's film itself was a remake of J. Lee Thompson's 1962 film of the same name, created from Alfred Hitchcock's storyboard. Both films are adaptations of the 1957 novel The Executioners by John D. MacDonald.
Steven Spielberg was working on Cape Fear in 1991, and Martin Scorsese was working on Schindler's List at the time. As a result, the directors decided to swap projects, although Steven Spielberg remained involved in the development of Cape Fear through the production company Amblin Entertainment.
