If you're looking for a smart, witty, and gripping crime comedy with a great cast, this show is the perfect choice.

Your Friends & Neighbors, starring Jon Hamm, is back for a second season and has already topped the Apple TV ratings.

Rather than surprising fans with incredible innovations, the creators added a few spicy twists to the familiar recipe for success.

What Is 'Your Friends & Neighbors' Season 2 About?

After being fired, divorced Wall Street hedge fund manager Andrew Cooper finds himself in an existential crisis. The motive for his crimes is officially family-related – Coop wants to appear prestigious to his ex-wife.

However, the real reason is deeper. The financier finds satisfaction in robberies and feels alive for the first time in years. He only steals pleasant trinkets – expensive watches, rare books, and paintings – that the owners won't immediately notice are missing.

In the new season, obscenely wealthy millionaire Owen Ashe moves into Westmont Village. Coop keeps an eye on his new neighbor, and his robberies begin to attract unwanted attention.

'Your Friends & Neighbors' Is a Brilliant Blend of Social Satire and Existential Drama

Your Friends & Neighbors starts with a familiar trope: a nice, charming man who must confront his conscience. However, unlike in Breaking Bad or Ozark, the motive for the crimes here is far more ironic.

The series' creators poke fun at the central character and the other residents of Westmont Village equally. The show can be described as a story about the characters from The White Lotus who have safely returned home from vacation.

Jonathan Tropper successfully combines social satire about the wealthy with an existential drama about the meaninglessness of life. Viewers gradually get to know dozens of residents and see that most of them are merely faking a happy life.

'Your Friends & Neighbors' Develops Old Characters and Introduces New, Charismatic Ones

Cooper seems like a successful professional, but he actually earns his living by stealing. It's hard not to empathize with him, thanks not only to Jon Hamm's charisma but also to the fact that he's a reflective character who seems almost innocent compared to his country club friends.

Owen, a new character in the second season, is reminiscent of Gatsby – he conceals the source of his income, throws lavish parties, attracts his neighbors' attention, and generates a wave of gossip.

Gatsby is a deeply tragic figure, and Owen is sure to hold more than a few surprises for viewers.

Like The White Lotus, Tropper's series critiques capitalism and gives less affluent audiences a chance to laugh at the whims of the rich. The show may not be revolutionary or ethically impeccable, but it's therapeutic in its own way.
