This time we embark on a journey to sunny Spain!

Back in 2020, the world saw Julia Roberts’ uplifting romantic drama based on Elizabeth Gilbert’s memoir. Set in Italy, India and Bali, Eat Pray Love gives strong summer vibes and teaches us to find beauty and peace in small things that surround us everywhere.

The success of this movie has inspired a lot of filmmakers, including the showrunners of Apple TV ’s new series. Aired on June 26, it is now holding the third place in the platform’s global chart and is claimed to be a perfect show for a post-work chill.

The plot of this dramedy revolves around Gala, a New York socialite whose husband ends up in a financial scandal. It forces the woman to flee in a quiet small town in Spain together with her mother and her teenage daughter, where they are trying to hide.

However, gossip spreads even quicker there, and it attracts the attention of Gala’s husband’s rivals. That’s why the family needs to team up before the upcoming danger.

Despite the presence of thriller elements in this synopsis, it’s really a light-hearted comedy that also happens to display the rich landscapes of Spain and its culture.

The show stars Desperate Housewives ’ Eva Longoria and the star of Spanish classic movies Carmen Maura (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Volver).

It may come as a surprise but it’s shot in both English and Spanish, and you can watch it with subtitles for the language that is not selected as the primary one. It allows the audience to fully immerse into its atmosphere and enhances its unique humor.

“I was like, ‘Come on, write me something in Spain, like in the wine country, that’s Under the Tuscan Sun and Eat, Pray, Love-y; I want to shoot in Spain, and I want to have fun and I want to speak Spanish,’” Longoria says about the inspiration for this show.

Titled Land of Women and based on Sandra Barneda’s best-selling novel, this series will be of much interest for those who enjoyed Roberts’ hit drama and other dreamy films of that kind, including Pierce Brosnan ’s Love Is All You Need (2012).

Luckily, two chapters of Longoria’s show are now available for streaming on Apple TV+.
