Arnold Schwarzenegger Is Right to Hate This ‘Terminator’ Movie

The actor rose to stardom thanks to James Cameron’s sci-fi action franchise, but there’s only one Terminator movie that Schwarzenegger has no special feelings about — and for an obvious reason.

Arnold Schwarzenegger might be a forever action movie star, but he took on many different jobs back in the day.

Having started with bodybuilding in the first place, the actor moved on to building a movie career instead, which was then followed by his ambitious beginnings in politics and business.

All of this clearly had its toll on Schwarzenegger’s acting career right after the immense success of James Cameron’s Terminator, forcing the former to abandon some movie projects for the sake of a different career path.

In particular, Schwarzenegger even had to quit one of the Terminator movies due to the busy schedule — which is the reason why the film never quite sat well with him (and the audiences either).

Arnold Schwarzenegger Doesn’t Like ‘Terminator: Salvation’ Because He’s Not There

As weird as it gets to be to this day, the movie, which came as the fourth instalment in the franchise, doesn’t feature Schwarzenegger at all — or at least the real Schwarzenegger since his digital image does appear in there at some point.

Even though Terminator: Salvation centred on a different character, Schwarzenegger doesn’t find it quite logical to make a film about Terminator without even featuring the leading character.

“I would say the worst was probably number four because that was done during the time I was governor [of California] and I was not in it. How do you do a Terminator movie without me being in the Terminator movie? It doesn’t make any sense”, the actor revealed during a talk with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live recently.

He then also added that he’s proud of all the three movies he did before Terminator: Salvation was released, which is why there’s no way Schwarzenegger can choose his favorite.

“I really can’t say that. I think the three I was in all had their own personalities and interesting storylines”, the actor said.

‘Terminator: Salvation’ Definitely Lacked Schwarzenegger’s Presence

  • On Rotten Tomatoes, Terminator: Salvation holds scores of 33% and 53% from critics and audiences
  • On IMDb, the movie is rated 6.5/10

Starring Christian Bale in the leading role instead, the movie had the lowest-grossing part of the franchise during the opening weekend back in 2009, eventually bombing in the box office with $371 million grossed against a $200 million budget.

“Who would've ever thought I'd be writing a review saying that Arnold Schwarzenegger would be preferable to Christian Bale?” TheIndependentCritic.com’s Richard Propes stated in his review.

“Bale is dull and humourless and lacking in charisma, and the lumbering McG, at the wheel of the unstoppable juggernaut that is a Hollywood summer blockbuster, proves as much of a numbskull as you'd expect”, Movie Talk’s Jason Best added.
