As a Westeros Fan, I Recommend ‘Legend of the Seeker’: It's a Campy Version of ‘Game of Thrones’

Despite its shortcomings, Legend of the Seeker is a highly bingeable series that many fans have a soft spot for. Here's why Game of Thrones fans will appreciate this gem.
Game of Thrones may have ended six years ago, but many fans of the fantasy genre are still on the hunt for something that can remotely come close to the show. While there are plenty of contenders worth checking out, Legend of the Seeker stands out as a unique (and occasionally cheesy) fantasy adventure that deserves a second chance.
‘Legend of the Seeker’ Is Campy and Fun Show for Fantasy Fans
Legend of the Seeker is based on Terry Goodkind's fantasy series “The Sword of Truth.”
Context: The show follows Richard Cypher, whose life is turned upside down when he discovers that he is “The Seeker of Truth.”
He teams up with Zedd, a wise and grumpy wizard, and Kahlan, a powerful woman known as a Confessor. Together they battle the evil Darken Rahl to protect their lands.
What Makes It Worth Watching for ‘Game of Thrones’ Fans
Legend of the Seeker feels like a more optimistic version of Game of Thrones. It doesn't take itself too seriously, which is a welcome change after watching Game of Thrones characters suffer for eight seasons.
Sure, the show doesn't always stick to Goodkind's books, but that doesn't make it any less fun to watch. The cheesy special effects and occasionally over-the-top scenes are part of its charm. It can easily become a true comfort food for fantasy lovers as it did for me.
What Do Viewers Think of ‘Legend of the Seeker’?
- On Rotten Tomatoes, Legend of the Seeker has 46% from critics and 85% from the audience.
- On IMDb, Legend of the Seeker is rated 7.6/10.
“I think a lot of people see the TV show as fairly distinct from the books. Watching pretty good actors do 90s-style kinky fantasy cheese is fun and anyone who says different is objectively wrong,” one Redditor wrote.
“I still rewatch it from time to time. Especially season 1 is really enjoyable. And well, Bridget Regan is always a joy to look at,” Redditor DUD3_L3B0W5KI shared.
