'Avatar: Fire and Ash' Theories: Is Quaritch Alive & Will Neytiri Switch Sides?
James Cameron’s next Avatar instalment will finally arrive in theatres in December after a series of delays, so it might be the best time to make predictions.
It’s been a long time coming for James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, the epic sci-fi franchise’s third movie that has remained in production hell ever since the 2020 pandemic.
Currently scheduled for a December release this year, the film will pick up the storyline right where 2022’s The Way of Water left off, potentially unraveling the truth about the fate of Stephen Lang’s Colonel Miles Quaritch and promising a possible major plot twist about Zoe Saldaña’s Neytiri.
We won’t know much about all of that until Fire and Ash hits theatres on December 19, but the franchise’s fans are ready for whatever outcome — here are some of the best theories.
Quaritch Will Turn Out to Be Alive and Neytiri Will Ultimately Change Her Mind
With fans sharing their thoughts about the future movie in a Reddit thread, some found it possible that Quaritch will make a comeback while Neytiri will question everything she’s believed before.
“Quaritch will reveal himself to be alive after a short period of peace for the sully's. Then, neytiri will be found by the mangkwan clan. She is questioning her beliefs (with the death of her son, the saving of her enemy, and the breaking of her family) and hears what she wants to hear from them, and then decides to join the mangkwan. Unknowing to her, the mangkwan have made a deal with quaritch to turn her and tuk into the rda”, Redditor sweaty-archibald suggested.
Quaritch Will Become Even More Evil (While Still Alive) and Neytiri Will At Least Consider Changing Sides

Other fans, however, weren’t so sure about those precise plot twists, reflecting on possibilities for both characters to make major changes.
“Quaritch being an analog of Jake will continue. He will befriend the Ash Clan but unlike Jake who joined the Omatikaya, Quaritch will betray them. I think Neytiri's grief and anger is going to push her to at least contemplate siding with the Ash Clan or at least test her will before inevitably seeing that that's not the right path to go down”, BillBRawlins said.
Quaritch Will (Somehow) Get a Better Resolution
Meanwhile, some fans also speculated about a much more positive outcome for Quaritch who, upon being captured by the leader of the Ash People Varang, proves himself and earns the latter’s respect, which might potentially result in something bigger between the two.
“Quaritch ends up caught by Varang but proves his worth as a warrior leading to semi-romance. We get a 1:1 of the first movie’s scene of Neytiri and Jake with Varang and Quaritch”, Striking_Land_8879 predicted.
