It is a well-known fact that Robert Zemeckis does not want any more Back to the Future sequels to be made, and the franchise's writer Bob Gale shares his opinion. He even supplied specific reasons: the trilogy told a complete story, the actors are too old and ill by now, and so on.

It is equally well-known that the fans in fact do want another sequel. Over the years, fans have provided a number of arguments in favor it. For example, it is inevitable that when Zemeckis passes a new movie will be green-lit sooner rather than later, so it is better for it to be made while both he and most of the old cast are still around. And said old cast seems to be open towards the idea of a new Back to the Future movie. After all, while the original trilogy told all the creators wanted it to tell, it has been left open-ended: Doc Brown returned in a brand new time machine and then flew off on a new adventure. And so on.

But as it appeared, Zemeckis was deaf to such arguments. Or, perhaps, he was deaf to them until recently. Last week Christopher Llloyd, whose defining role was Emmett "Doc" Brown in the Back to the Future movie trilogy (as you can see already from his Twitter nickname) posted a fairly vague, cryptic tweet:

"I can't say yet, but the future holds something very special for you…stay tuned!"

Certainly, this message can be completely unrelated to Back to the Future. But that did not stop fan speculation. Moreover, Lloyd's cryptic tweet came mere days after Michael J. Fox, who played Marty McFly in the Back to the Future Trilogy toyed with the idea of rebooting the franchise in an interview:

"There's something about it that connects with people on every level," he said about the franchise. "I just feel like it will come around again."

Add to that the fact Lloyd met with Fox just recently. So, unsurprisingly, these statements caused quite a bit of excitement on the web. Whether anything comes out of them remains to be seen.
