Everything I know so far about this historic drama.

Set in 11th-century England, King & Conqueror delves into the intense rivalry between Harold Godwinson and William of Normandy, rising from reluctant allies to fierce enemies on the brink of the Battle of Hastings in 1066.

Star-Studded Cast

The drama boasts a compelling ensemble: James Norton portrays Harold Godwinson, while Nikolaj Coster-Waldau plays William the Conqueror.

They are joined by Clémence Poésy as Matilda, Emily Beecham as Edith, Eddie Marsan as King Edward, and Juliet Stevenson as Lady Emma, among many others.

Release Date & Streaming Info

King & Conqueror premiered on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on 24 August 2025, with all eight episodes available as a box set.

Filming Locations

Despite its English setting, the series was filmed entirely in Iceland. Locations like Heiðmörk, the Reykjavík region, and a farm in Hvalfjörður doubled for the English countryside and the epic battlefield scenes, some featuring over 180 extras and dozens of horses.

I’ve always had a soft spot for historical dramas, especially when they mix high-stakes politics with personal stories. And this cast genuinely floored me!
