The ultimate 90s feel-good story that wouldn't be this great without its great ensemble and philosophical undertones. Fun fact: you can finish it in just 10 hours.

As someone who's always searching for that perfect escape, I've developed a special relationship with feel-good stories that secretly and simultaneously also give you some pretty solid life advice.

Beach Boys (1997) is exactly like that. And coming into the series, I had no doubt I'm in for something special as 90s dramas are up there with the 2000s era for me. I think that's because they captured a certain innocence that we're all secretly yearning for.

Beach Boys: Finding Your New Self Can Bring Some Unexpected Friendships

If life gives you lemons, just turn on Beach Boys and watch your worries melt away.

This classic J-dorama follows Hiromi, a carefree guy who just lost his girlfriend and a place to live, and Kaito, a serious and dedicated businessman who just lost a very important client. They both decide to head to the sea, running as far mentally and physically away from their problems as possible.

These two meet on their way to the beach and from that moment forward their story begins.

Takashi Sorimachi (Hiromi) and Yutaka Takenouchi (Kaito) are the ones pulling everything together. I absolutely love the chemistry between the two of them and the fact that they weren't afraid to get silly and weird.

While Beach Boys appears to be a light-hearted summer drama on the surface, there's a lot of wisdom about friendship, purpose, and finding your place in the world. It's healing in the most beautiful way. So I'd definitely advise watching it.

Beach Boys will be great for fans of J-doramas as well as someone who's never been into it. Beach Boys is a great introduction to the genre. You can find the show on Netflix right now. And it will only take 10 hours to finish it.
