Before The White Lotus, Carrie Coon Starred in HBO's Greatest Drama With 91% on RT

This is one of HBO's best and yet most overlooked projects.
The sensational hit is back with a new location – The White Lotus Hotel has successfully opened in Thailand, one of the world's most popular tourist destinations.
One of the storylines focuses on actress Jaclyn, and her friends Laurie and Kate. Jaclyn is used to fame, so it is easier for her to identify with Kate, a frivolous and glamorous woman. For Laurie, played by Carrie Coon, whose career is clearly not paying emotional dividends, such a rapprochement provokes burning envy.
If Laurie's face and the actress' brilliant performance look familiar, it is because Carrie Coon played one of the lead roles in one of HBO's best dramas – The Leftovers.
What Is The Leftovers About?
A few years ago, a wave of mysterious disappearances swept the planet – about 2% of the world's population vanished. Scientists found no explanation, no pattern, no connection to other events.
The people who remained experienced the losses in different ways – some saw it as God's providence and joined cults, some saw it as punishment and went on a rampage, some hid from the pain, some searched for answers.
The small town of Mapleton experiences all kinds of reactions to the Sudden Departure – Kevin tries to deal with the aftermath, his wife Laurie joins a cult, and Nora (Carrie Coon), who lost her husband, son, and daughter, tries to come to terms with the loss.
The Leftovers Mainly Focuses on Kevin and Nora's Psychological Struggles
The emotional journey of Kevin and Nora, who are suddenly left without their loved ones, their process of grieving – this is what interests Damon Lindelof (who also created Lost) most.
The fact that people mysteriously disappear t is just a convenient hook to get the characters to the right starting point – a crisis that somehow resonates with every human experience.
At the same time, unlike Lost, The Leftovers' ending, called The Book of Nora, maintains a balance between closed and open storylines. No spoilers here, but Lindelof gives his characters a long-awaited relief.
The Leftovers' Nora Is One of Carrie Coon's Best Roles
Everyone who watched The Leftovers can talk for hours about Carrie Coon's brilliant performance – the actress made her character as alive as possible, every scene with her, every decision and action of her Nora is the highlight of the show.
With her crazy strength, talent and energy, the actress creates something completely incomprehensible on screen – she talks about faith and love, feels sorry for herself, finds peace and searches for answers.
