Paramount+’s biggest hits, Taylor Sheridan ’s multiple Western-y shows came as a compelling watch and reintroduced some talented actors to the public that now strives for more movies and series with them as leads.

This is also the case for Kelly Reilly who starred in Sheridan’s Yellowstone as Beth Dutton for 5 seasons straight; after years of landing mostly supporting roles, the actress was finally granted with more screen time and bigger role, which eventually made her a movie figure compelling enough to get all the attention from the show’s fans.

However, Reilly’s relatively small role in a 2009 hit movie made quite a big difference for a famous story, so it’s probably time to give that mystery action film another rewatch.

Unlike in many other adaptations and the original series of novels as well, here Mary isn’t just a side character popping up with a couple of lines every so often and making things even more complicated in the lead characters’ relationships, but rather a long-awaited guide that helps Holmes and Watson navigate through hardships of their work by representing the stability of the home they return to.

Guy Ritchie’s movie showcased Reilly’s ability to masterfully handle a role of a complex character who, while staying mostly quiet, hides their own troubles deep inside.

Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes Is Still One of the Best Conan Doyle Adaptations

Released back in 2009, Ritchie’s own version of the quirky detective’s story was shortly followed by the BBC show with Benedict Cumberbatch in the leading role, yet it’s the former that receives another type of recognition for sticking to a pure Conan Doyle-ish atmosphere combined with an action-packed storyline.

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and Rachel McAdams, the movie is still a solid watch for Sherlock Holmes-related stories’ fans, holding scores of 69% and 77% from critics and the audience respectively on Rotten Tomatoes.

The flick was also a major box office hit, earning $525 million against the initial budget of $90 million.
