The show’s second season broke all viewership records possible in Apple TV+’s history.

Severance ’s return to Apple TV+ with its second season back in January was a blast the streamer hasn’t seen with any of its feature shows.

Having exposed its fans to a long wait since the first season premiered in 2022, the series was one of the most highly anticipated streaming arrivals of the entire year, ultimately becoming Apple TV+’s most watched show in history.

However, it’s not only the long wait that brought millions of Severance’s fans to their screens, but also a stunning promo campaign which reminded viewers of the show’s unique place on modern TV.

Almost two months later, Severance’s producer and director Ben Stiller revealed some never-heard-before details about the event that might be still keeping the show’s fans thrilled.

Severance Grand Central Station Promo Had Everyone Shocked

Ahead of the new season’s premiere in January, Apple TV+ brought everyone’s talks about the show to the highest level when New Yorkers and the city’s tourists witnessed a large soundproof glass box installed in the middle of Grand Central Station.

The pop-up replicated the show’s outdated office on the severed floor and had Severance’s lead actors Adam Scott, Britt Lower, John Turturro, and Zach Cherry walking around and pretending to work as if that was their most ordinary day at Lumon Industries.

Patricia Arquette and Tramell Tillman, who in the series portray the supervisors, were also there to, well, supervise.

The promo quickly went viral and became the first sign of Severance’s elevated popularity as the second season’s premiere was approaching.

Ben Stiller Recently Talked About How the Promo Came Together

The show’s exec was in attendance at the ongoing South by Southwest, and though some fans might have expected Stiller to give away some details from the second season’s finale, he talked about another exciting thing instead.

Reflecting on the Grand Central Station promo that turned into a huge boost for Severance’s season 2 viewership, Stiller revealed he wasn’t planning to involve the show’s actors at first.

“The idea was to do something that would just be almost a performance art piece — to put this cube in the middle of Grand Central at rush hour and put actors in there at their cubicle. When it was pitched to us it was cosplay actors dressed as the team. Then Adam Scott said, ‘Wait a minute. We have to go in there. We have to do this’”, the producer stated.

He then added that the real cast’s presence made the performance even more authentic and very different in a positive way.

Meanwhile, Severance’s next episode is scheduled to land on Apple TV+ on March 14.
