Platonic brings together two of the year's biggest stars, whose on-screen chemistry is off the charts. Here's why this show is a must-see for any fan of romantic comedies.

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne are one of the biggest stars of 2025. Rogen created and starred in one of the year's best series, The Studio, while Byrne shined in the dramedy If I Had Legs I'd Kick You, which received rave reviews at Sundance and will be released on October 10.

The two recently released a joint project – the second season of Platonic, which has already received a 100% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

I watched it, and here's why you shouldn't miss this heart-warming gem.

What Is 'Platonic' About?

After taking time off for maternity leave, housewife Sylvia (Rose Byrne) decides to reboot her life.

First, she reunites with her ex-best friend, Will (Seth Rogen), whose divorce and permanent midlife crisis become the catalyst for a series of ridiculous adventures and self-reflection.

'Platonic' Is a Relevant, Light-Hearted and Hilarious Comedy

Screenwriter Francesca Delbanco drew on her personal experience to create the series. At some point, she realized that after getting married and having children, her social circle had shifted.

Male friendship groups became isolated, and she almost stopped communicating with her friends from her youth. This prompted her to explore the issue of male friendship.

Thus, Platonic was born – the best romantic and situational comedy on modern TV. Although it may seem like lowbrow entertainment, Platonic is a special little gem. This kind of light, conversational comedy is a rare find these days.

If you're tired of high-concept projects like I am, this is the perfect choice: a witty, lighthearted story about ordinary people.

Rose Byrne & Seth Rogen's Chemistry Will Keep You Glued to the Screen

There's such incredible chemistry and ease of communication between Byrne and Rogen that it's impossible to tear yourself away from their interactions. Series creators Nicholas Stoller and his wife, Francesca Delbanco, didn't consider any other actors for the lead roles.

Given the chemistry between Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne – who had previously played a married couple in Neighbors – they seemed ideal to embody the complex dynamics of a platonic friendship.

Platonic was originally conceived as an anthology series, with each season telling a new story with different actors. However, Byrne and Rogen proved so popular with viewers that the producers decided to continue their story in a second season.

What Did Critics & Viewers Think of 'Platonic'?

  • Platonic has 96% from critics and 78% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.

  • On IMDb, the series has a score of 7.2/10.
