Better Than in IKEA: How to Make Authentic Swedish Köttbullar with Rich Cheese and Jam
With this recipe, you’ll fall in love with Swedish comfort food (even if the combination of meat and sweet jam sounds unusual to you).
To some serving savory meat with sweet berry jam might sound like a strange culinary experiment at first, but this beloved Swedish classic proves that opposites really attract on a dinner plate.
Recreating this iconic restaurant classic at home doesn't mean you'll have to spend hours in the kitchen. This perfect combination of juicy, cheese-infused meatballs, rich creamy sauce, and sweet cranberry jam is the easiest way to get a heartwarming dinner.
Ingredients: 200 g of ground pork, 200 g of ground beef, salt to taste, black pepper, 1 bunch of dill, 1–2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, 2 teaspoons of cumin, 2–3 tablespoons of vodka, 4 teaspoons of cranberry jam, 80–100 ml of heavy cream, water, sour cream for serving, 50 g of grated cheese.
Mix both types of ground meat in a bowl, then add salt, pepper, cumin, finely chopped dill, and grated cheese. Mix well and shape into small meatballs.
Heat the oil in a skillet and fry the meatballs until golden brown on all sides. Then pour in a little vodka — it evaporates quickly but makes the meat taste richer.
Add the cream, a little hot water, and cranberry jam. Stir gently and simmer everything together for a few more minutes until the sauce becomes thick and fragrant.
Serve hot with mashed potatoes, sour cream, and an extra spoonful of jam.
