You could have already seen this Canadian classics at the most popular fast food spots across the world.

Even though the French fries remain one of the best fast food options out there, the way of cooking those keeps evolving and creating new recipes that bring some diversity to everyone’s favorite taste.

In fact, you might be unaware of the fact that the famous Canadian Poutine is actually already on the menu of several fast food giants like McDonalds’ and Burger King, though you can also try to make it at home. The ingredients are simple and taste will be just like in the best Canadian fast food spots.

Here’s what you need: 500 g of potatoes, 300 g of mozzarella cheese, 2 tablespoons of potato starch, 2 tablespoons of flour, 4 cloves of garlic, 150 ml each of beef and chicken broth, vegetable oil (for frying), 50 g of butter, salt and pepper (to taste).

Peel the potatoes and cut them into strips of roughly the same size. Soak them in water overnight, then drain and dry them.

Fry the potatoes in hot oil for 10 minutes. Take the potatoes out and place them on paper towels or napkins to remove excess oil.

Prepare a thick sauce. To do this, melt the butter, mix it with the flour, and fry it over low heat, stirring constantly. When the mixture darkens slightly, add the minced garlic and pour in the broth. Bring to a boil. The sauce should be brown in color.

Heat the vegetable oil again and fry the potatoes a second time until crispy. Place them on a paper towel.

Drizzle the potatoes with sauce, sprinkle with cheese, and pour the sauce over them.

Don’t add the sauce to the potatoes too early, so that the cheese doesn’t melt prematurely and the structure of the fries isn’t damaged.
