Beyond the Burger: How to Make the Perfect Cheesy & Savory Reuben Sandwich at Home

All you need is some simplest ingredients which will create the taste you’ve never had before.

We’re all used to having sandwiches for breakfast or lunch every so often, though sometimes the same tastes become way too dull to have them that frequently. In cases like this, the famous American Reuben sandwich can help; despite containing the ingredients we use quite often, the meal still creates a unique taste that will make you crave for more.

Here’s what you need: 2 slices of light rye bread, 150 g of beef, 2 slices of cheese (Swiss or any melting cheese), 80 g of sauerkraut, 1 tbsp of butter.

For the sauce: 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon of ketchup, a little mustard or horseradish, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, a pinch of paprika, garlic to taste.

Cut the beef into thin slices and quickly fry over high heat until browned on the outside, so it stays juicy. Squeeze the cabbage lightly to remove excess moisture.

For the sauce, mix mayonnaise with ketchup, add a little mustard or horseradish, lemon juice, paprika, and garlic; this creates a thick, tangy dressing.

Spread butter on one side of the bread and the sauce on the other. Assemble the sandwich: first the cheese, then the hot beef, topped with cabbage and a little more sauce, and cover with the second slice of bread.

Fry in a pan over medium heat, pressing down, until the bread is golden and crispy and the cheese inside has melted. Flip it over and cook until the other side is just as crispy. Serve immediately while hot.
