Big Brother spoilers: Week 9's new HOH already tried this coup twice — this time nobody stopped him
Barrett Pfeiffer has been trying to overthrow the government of this house for weeks, and the house kept politely declining. Well. The house is no longer being consulted.
The Texas Jumbotron engineer — a man whose actual job is making things enormous and impossible to ignore — won his first HOH of the summer right after Lala's eviction, and then did the thing every Newbie has been whispering about since July: he put all three Icons on the block. Angela Murray, Dee Valladares, AND Rick Devens. At once. A full set.
Coup attempt #1 and #2, a brief history
This was not a lightning strike; this was a man who kept lighting matches in the rain:
- Last week, Barrett was fully ready to vote Devens out the door — until Devens yanked himself off the chopping block with a clutch Block Buster win and strolled away like nothing happened.
- Then came the backup blueprint with Drew: win the veto, pull Angela down, slide in a replacement, guarantee an Icon leaves no matter what. Yash won the veto instead. Blueprint, meet shredder.
Third time's the charm, because the veto ceremony came and went with the veto in Yash's pocket, unused. The block stands. Barring an iconic miracle Thursday, an Icon falls.

The Icons are handling it beautifully (they are not)
For the first time all season, the three most protected players in the house are campaigning for their lives — against each other. Devens is lobbying anyone with a pulse. Angela is out here pitching an all-girls alliance with her back against the wall. And Dee has moved past strategy into prophecy, delivering this to the live-feed cameras:
"You're gonna shrink like a snail when you put salt on it."
That is a woman describing her HOH. Reality television remains undefeated.
The thing is, Barrett's ruthlessness has references. Fresh evictee Lala warned everyone from the jury house that "he was just really working on his great knowledge of this game" while looking her dead in the face. She learned it the hard way. The Icons are learning it in real time, on the block, together — which is either the bravest move of BB28 or the fastest way to manufacture three sworn enemies. Possibly both. See you Thursday.
