Big Update on 'Patience' Season 2: More Episodes, Cast Changes & Everything You Need to Know
The Laura Fraser-led detective drama series was renewed for another season back in May and has already started its second installment production.
Things are just starting to swirl for police archivist Patience Evans at the York Criminal Records Office as PBS’ detective drama show is currently preparing new episodes for a release sometime next year.
Starring Laura Fraser and Ella Maisy Purvis, Patience follows the latter’s autistic police worker as she navigates through her partnership with Fraser’s Detective Inspector Bea Metcalf and difficulties of being different from everyone else.
With time, however, Patience is able to accept her special skills which she starts using to uncover the trickiest cases the police were dealing with so far.
While the series’ season 2 has yet to arrive, here’s a full guide to Patience’s next instalment before a big premiere.
How Many Episodes Will ‘Patience’ Season 2 Have & Who Returns as Regular?
The show’s second season is currently still filming in the UK, though some early reports suggest that Patience’s next instalment will be a bit longer than the previous one, coming with eight episodes instead of six.
The not so good news here is that Purvis is the only regular to return to the show, with Laura Fraser’s character being substituted by Jessica Hynes’ Detective Frankie Monroe.
Per Patience’ official season 2 synopsis, shared by TVInsider, “Patience will continue her work in the police criminal records department of City of York Police after establishing herself as an invaluable member of the team, bringing her unique insight into a series of perplexing cases. However, when a new boss, Detective Frankie Monroe brings a very different management style, it proves tricky for them both to navigate”.
Apart from that, Patience will also have to deal with all the challenges of her blossoming romance with colleague Elliot.
Ella Maisy Purvis Says Her Character Needs a Promotion in ‘Patience’ Season 2
The actress, who stars as Patience in the series, has been vocal about her character’s extraordinary abilities to handle many tasks at a time, especially considering her health issues — which isn’t only a way to debunk all stereotypes about autistic people, but also a means to suggest that Patience has been working extra hard for the entire community’s sake.
“We are shooting Season 2 at the moment, and there are a couple of scenes where that is put into question because it’s quite an unusual thing for a clerical worker, a civil servant to do, to be directly involved in the police work in crime, being on crime scenes and whatnot”, Purvis revealed in an interview with TVInsider, adding that her character still succeeded in structuring her routine and thus “needs a pay raise”.
When Will ‘Patience’ Season 2 Be Released?
The show’s second season doesn’t have a premiere date yet, but it’s expected to be released sometime in 2026.
