Black Mirror Fans Think Season 7 Is a New Victim of Hollywood’s Most Annoying Trend

Some of the most acclaimed shows have found a new way to hype their audiences up, but we don’t like it.
In the world of all star-packed TV shows, a few series with more focus on its story rather than familiar faces have quickly become the audiences’ darling, but even those can sometimes fail badly.
This might also concern the new season of Netflix ’s Black Mirror, which has gone through a lot to eventually turn into a rare quality-oriented series in the streamer’s original collection.
However, Netflix’s curse might have done its trick to Black Mirror too, and the show’s fans are getting ready for the worst ahead of today’s season 7 premiere.
Black Mirror Fans Slam Season 7 for Celebrity Overload
Initially launched in 2011, the series has been quite a hit all these years, so many might not be surprised Black Mirror’s creators opted for leveraging their show’s popularity by bringing in more familiar faces at some point.
This, however, was definitely not what fans wanted or even expected, seeing this as some kind of betrayal of Black Mirror’s whole idea.
“Big name actors are taking these parts and being used as a gimmick for people to watch, instead of watching for the compelling story line people are now watching because of celebrities. There are countless people that have said they're going to watch the new episodes because of Miley Cyrus or Aaron Paul”, Redditor DiscountIcy3597 commented in a Black Mirror-themed thread.
Others chimed in, with Dependent_Body5384 wishing “it was more unknowns…”.
The new season’s criticism does feel justified though, as Black Mirror’s new episodes will now feature Rashida Jones, Awkwafina, Emma Corrin, Peter Capaldi, Will Poulter, Paul Giamatti, and many more.
Celebrity Obsession Is a New Divisive Norm For Hollywood’s Most Unique Shows
While some might be giggling and kicking their feet, anticipating their favorites’ appearance on the most popular series, others feel like those shows haven’t been the same ever since.
Black Mirror’s new season is far from being the only recent example — Hulu ’s Only Murders in the Building has had this annoying tendency for several seasons in a row, also adding a bunch of celebrities in the upcoming season 5.
That said, the show’s fans were doing much better without famous names on the cast list, prioritizing the story itself instead of letting themselves fall for the trick and get distracted.
Black Mirror’s first viewership results aren’t in yet, but they might be affected by this hype-seeking trap quite soon.
