If you're a fan of sci-fi that makes you question the moral role of technology in our lives, then you absolutely need to check this one out. The movie also has an unexpected connection to Venom.

The countdown has begun. Netflix dropped the trailer for Black Mirror 's 7th Season last week and we're already clearing our schedules to fully binge it in one sitting. Or is it just me? Well, anyway, I know how hard the anticipation can be, but I might just have a perfect solution for you.

If you're like me, you've probably rewatched Black Mirror a couple of times already and are currently craving more. So while we're all counting down the days until the release of a new season, I have something great for you that might make waiting a little bit easier.

Bonus point: it's an original, not a remake, reboot or revival of some sort. It's a completely unique and spectacular story.

Upgrade (2018) Is Your Next Favorite Sci-Fi Thriller

Upgrade might have flown under many people's radar, but it packs the same punch as Charlie Brooker's finest episodes.

The movie follows Grey Trace (Logan Marshall-Green) a technophobe who gets a super-advanced implant after a tragic accident leaves him paralyzed. The implant, called STEM, turns him into something way more than he bargained for, a superhuman.

But what happens when the technology that helps you also becomes your prison? Well, to get all the answers, you have to watch Upgrade.

But be sure that in addition to a great story, the movie has the lead actor, Logan Marshall-Green who gives such a killer performance that you'll forget he's not Tom Hardy 's long-lost twin. Seriously, the resemblance is uncanny!

Are Upgrade and Venom the Same Movie?

Speaking of Hardy, fans made interesting observations about the similarities between underrated Upgrade and celebrated Venom, which were both released in 2018. As Redditor Primary_Thing3968 compared:

“Both movies have a dark tone and dark humor in them. In Upgrade the kills are way more brutal and violent whereas in Venom they are more censored. Both movies do have some slight differences but overall they are the same concept, and personally I enjoyed Upgrade way more than Venom.”

The similarities are pretty solid and I can confidently say that Upgrade deserves way more attention than it's getting right now.

You can catch Upgrade on Netflix, Fandango at Home, Amazon Video, or Apple TV+. While we're all counting down the days until Black Mirror's return, I really advise you to give this one a shot. It might just become your new favorite story about the price of progress.
