Blood, Beards, and Backstory: David Harbour’s Santa Returns in 'Violent Night 2'

New sequel dives deeper into St. Nick’s brutal past.
David Harbour is gearing up to don the iconic red suit and beard once more as the much-anticipated sequel Violent Night 2 has officially locked in its release date for December 4, 2026. Fans of the blood-soaked Christmas actioner can expect a return to the chaotic holiday spirit, with director Tommy Wirkola and writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller back at the helm, promising more of the brutal and darkly humorous mayhem that made the first film a hit.
Unlike the original, which largely unfolded within the walls of a single mansion, the sequel aims to broaden Santa’s story, diving deeper into his mysterious Viking origins. Casey teased to Collider that audiences are eager to learn more about St. Nick’s violent past as Nicomund the Red, and Harbour himself is reportedly thrilled to explore this rougher, more complex side of the legendary figure.
Filming is expected to commence in september in Winnipeg, with producers Kelly McCormick and David Leitch overseeing the project alongside Wirkola. Although plot details remain tightly under wraps, the promise of expanding the lore and introducing new characters like Mrs. Claus and the Elves hints at a festive sequel that will crank up the volume on action and dark comedy.
The original Violent Night struck a chord with audiences, earning $76 million worldwide on a modest $20 million budget, and garnering praise for its inventive twist on holiday fare. With the creative team reunited and Harbour back in the boots of this no-nonsense Santa, fans can prepare for another wild ride.
