No one likes recycled storylines.

Summary:

  • Blue Bloods is a CBS procedural that follows the life of the Reagan family with several generations involved in the law enforcement structures.
  • The show already had a love story between two partners, Jamie and Eddie, which ended in marriage.
  • Now that Blue Bloods is slowly but surely leading to a romance between Danny and Baez, viewers are hoping and praying that it doesn't happen.

If you watch enough procedural dramas, you might believe that every partnership leads to romance. It happened to Richard Castle and Kate Beckett on Castle, Seeley Booth and Temperance Brennan on Bones, and even Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon on The Mentalist. A slow-burning romance always makes for a good storyline.

CBS' Blue Bloods, which is now leading viewers to say goodbye to the Reagan family and everyone close to them, is no exception. Jamie Reagan and his wife, Eddie Janko, started out as business partners and ended up as a family. As good as their story was, fans don't want to see a rip-off.

Will Danny and Baez End Up Together?

One thing that eventually kills any procedural that has been on the air for too long is constant repetition. By the time the writers reach a certain point, they feel like they have told every story in the book for that particular universe and set of characters. That's where story recycling begins.

Many people tend to believe that all the tender dialogue that NYPD First Grade Detective Danny Reagan has with his partner, Detective Maria Baez, leads up to them becoming canon before the show ends. While some find it sweet to see Danny settle down, others think the two are much better as a platonic duo.

So far, all police procedurals have relied heavily on pretty much the same premise. Blue Bloods stood out for many viewers because of the way it was set up, following several generations of Reagans, all at different stages of their careers and personal lives.

Many procedurals seem to struggle with showing true friendships between two partners without ulterior motives. Blue Bloods had a great chance to stand out in that regard as well, but that doesn't seem to be the case now.

Blue Bloods season 14, which is now airing on CBS, will be the last for the show. The only thing the network could suggest to the production team is to wrap everything up in two parts. The first 10 episodes began airing on February 16, 2024, and the next 8 episodes will premiere this fall.

If you are interested in seeing where the show takes Danny Reagan and the rest of the family and their loved ones, be sure to tune in to CBS every Friday to not miss another episode of Blue Bloods.
