Although he's supposed to be a seasoned professional, there's almost no logic to the Commissioner's actions.

Summary:

  • Tom Selleck 's Frank Reagan has been at the center of Blue Bloods since the show's debut
  • However, the character's actions are easily influenced by his emotions, ruining the image of a seasoned professional
  • What makes things even stranger is that Frank completely changes his tune when his family gets involved

Tom Selleck has been an integral part of the Blue Bloods TV series since its inception, both as an executive producer and as one of its stars, portraying Commissioner Frank Reagan throughout the show's thirteen-season run.

As the show's 14th and final season nears its release, it's absolutely clear that the patriarch of the Reagan family isn't going anywhere anytime soon and is sticking around until the conclusion of the story.

Frank May Be The Most Nonsensical Character In The Series

However, despite the fact that it is hard to imagine Blue Bloods without him, some fans of the show find the character to be deeply flawed, as to them his decisions and motivations make absolutely no sense.

They believe that Frank will go out of his way to protect the cops in almost any situation, regardless of whether it feels fair or justified, only resorting to real punishment when something truly extreme happens.

While he is supposed to be a dedicated professional with decades of experience on the side of the law behind him, for some reason he never acts practically and lets his emotions affect his decisions.

Whereas some of the cops get suspended for absolutely minor misdeeds, others manage to get away with much more serious mistakes.

He Changes Completely When His Family Is Involved

And yet, when it comes to dealing with his many children, Frank suddenly switches to a completely rational mode, creating a massive dissonance that makes the viewer question the logic of his actions.

Some fans even point out that witnessing the character's constant hypocrisy over the course of many seasons actually made them quit the show, as there was no escaping it since Frank was a major character.

Perhaps some of this can be attributed to Frank's "old school cop" mentality, as fans point out that he is supposed to be a somewhat stereotypical commissioner who dictates his rules to his family.

Others believe that the show is intentionally designed to provoke controversial reactions from fans, which doesn't necessarily make it bad, so it's pointless to overthink and try to make sense of every single aspect of Blue Bloods.

The first episode of season 14 will premiere on February 16, 2024.

Do you agree that it is futile to overthink Blue Bloods?
