A bold creative duo signals change for Bond’s future.

Intrigued by Denis Villeneuve directing the next Bond film, I was even more curious to learn about it's writer. Steven Knight — the mind behind Peaky Blinders — has been chosen to write the script. It’s a surprising, yet fitting decision that hints at something beyond the usual reboot formula.

In a time when most reboots play it safe, this one already feels different. Villeneuve brings cinematic scale and precision. Knight, meanwhile, is known for his stripped-down dialogue and morally complex characters. Not your typical Bond formula — and that’s what makes it exciting.

According to Deadline, Knight was chosen after several writers were considered by Amazon/MGM. He reportedly secured Villeneuve’s personal approval last week, while the director was still filming Dune: Part Three. Casting for Bond is still a long way off, but the creative groundwork is already serious.

Knight’s film work — from Locke to Eastern Promises to Spencer — shows a writer comfortable with tension and restraint. His scripts tend to avoid spectacle for its own sake. Whether that tone makes it through to the final version remains to be seen now.

Still, the pairing of Villeneuve and Knight marks a rare moment in the series — two distinctive, deliberate voices working together from the very beginning.
