After several premiere date changes, Bong Joon-ho's highly anticipated sci-fi comedy is finally set to hit the theaters worldwide in March, and a major update that the movie has just received confirms that it’s all actually happening.

Starring Robert Pattinson, Mickey 17 has long remained in the director’s closet ever since the film was set to be released in January 2024, but then got several delays and eventually secured a March 2025 premiere after some production issues Joon-ho had with Mickey 17’s distributor Warner Bros.

Now that the flick is definitely coming to theaters after all, the first reviews from critics are in, and it might be another proof that the audiences didn’t spend all this time waiting for nothing.

Based on Edward Ashton’s 2022 novel titled Mickey7, Mickey 17 is Bong Joon-ho's first flick after the Oscar-winning dark comedy Parasite; the upcoming movie follows Mickey Barnes, a stranded man who, willing to get off of Earth, signs up for a job as a disposable clone worker on the human colony Niflheim.

Mickey’s work routine is hard as he has to embark on some very dangerous missions that he doesn’t survive, but his body is regenerated every time he dies. Things get out of control when one of his clones is incorrectly presumed dead, and now there are two versions of Mickey out there to deal with the problem.

Despite the latter’s higher score of 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, Mickey 17 is still another major success for Bong Joon-ho who follows his successful directorial path after a big break; alternatively, Mickey 17’s rating might get even higher at some point, getting closer to that of its predecessor.

The movie is set to be released in theaters worldwide on March 25.
