All of the main actors will reprise their roles in the second season and several new cast members were announced.

The cast of The Buccaneers will be joined by Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester, Jacob Ifan, Grace Ambrose, Maria Almeida, and Greg Wise. Their roles are still being kept secret.

Apple TV+ recently released a trailer showing the development of Nan and Theo's relationship, the lives of runaways Guy and Jinny, and Leighton Meester's character asking Patricia to introduce her to Nan.

In an interview with TV Insider, Leighton Meester teased her role, though she kept her character's identity under wraps:

"The truth is, being a fan of the first season, I was so happy to come on to play any role! That being said, this is the best possible role that I could have ever asked for, and it's going to be a secret until it comes out. Trust me, it's worth the wait.”

Could she be Nan's mother?

What Will 'The Buccaneers' Season 2 Be About?

The Buccaneers, the original novel by Edith Wharton, is unfinished, so the creators of the series have some room to maneuver.

Viewers will likely receive a more detailed account of Nan and Theo's failed marriage. The book describes how Theo pressures his wife and how the young couple experiences multiple miscarriages.

The question of bearing an heir affects the spouses' relationship: Will Theo maintain his love for Nan, or will he become another tyrant?

In the second season, we can most likely expect the revelation of the show's main mystery: the identity of Nan's biological mother. She may be able to change her daughter's life and influence her marriage.

The relationship between Mabel and Honoria will also likely be tested. In their world, financial issues are decided by men, meaning at least one of them will likely have to marry.

Guy and Jinny won't be able to hide forever, so they'll return sooner or later. What will James do when he learns about the betrayal? How will Guy cope with the fact that Nan is now married to his best friend?
