Bridgerton Season 3 First Look: Penelope Is The Best Makeover Story of 2023
Ever since Julia Quinn's Bridgerton books were turned into a series that landed on Christmas Day 2020, they've taken the world by storm. Second only to Stranger Things in terms of viewing hours, Bridgerton was the much-needed Covid-19 distraction upon its release.
After the escapades of Daphne and Simon in Season 1, audiences couldn't wait to see what Season 2 had in store. Anthony and Kate's romance was just as enthralling and pushed the series further into the spotlight. Fans simply loved Kanthony! But where will Season 3 take us and what do we know so far?
Unlike the books, Bridgerton , Season 3 will follow the story of Colin and Penelope from the 4th book Romancing Mr Bridgerton, skipping out Benedict and Sophie's story An Offer from a Gentlemen.
According to reports, Season 3 will see Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) move on from her crush on Colin (this was set up at the end of season 2 with his unkind comments) and look for a husband. Of course, being Lady Whistledown, she'll need to marry someone that will grant her as much freedom and independence as possible. Colin, eager to rekindle their friendship, offers to be her mentor for the season. Yet, he ends up realizing feelings are developing.
Penelope has forever been overlooked by Regency society (and Colin) due to her poorly fitting, garish clothes, her looks being unlike other ladies, and her taciturn ways. However, in Romancing Mr. Bridgerton, Penelope undergoes a transformation both in her looks and more importantly, in her confidence.
When filming for Season 3 began, we were granted a sneaky peak of Nicola Coughlan on set with exquisite make-up and stunning hair. It's safe to say, the show's producers are really going for a huge Penelope makeover. From what we've seen so far, it's set to be epic.
We also have to mention that Penelope's makeover is only so surprising because the producers have worked for two seasons to make actor Nicola Coughlan 'glow down' for her role. She was deliberately made up and dressed in unflattering ways with shapeless, garish dresses and strange updos. The result was uncanny: they made a 30-something woman look like a much younger, plain-looking girl.
But from the very brief clips we've seen of Season 3 so far, they've transformed Penelope with more flattering material, colors, and cuts that reveal her true beauty. Fans cannot wait to see more!
