Bye, Squid Game: New Medical K-Drama Quietly Takes Over Netflix's Top 3
Oh, did anyone else think the reign of K-dramas was over?
Something is old, something is new; something will never go out of style. Few genres can be a part of the third group; but the titans like procedurals, especially medical ones, sure can. But what if a medical procedural is also a K-drama? And what if it is also a comedy?
Netflix has recently added this amazing series to its library, and it took the world by storm. The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call is already number two in Netflix’s top 10. And the show managed to put behind even Squid Game season 2 and the popular XO, Kitty. But what’s so good about it?
Is The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call Worth Watching?
The series revolves around an elite team of trauma specialists at a university hospital. The main guy, however, is a genius doctor named Baek Kang-hyeok. The man is a trauma surgeon who has worked in the most dangerous places in the world. But the time has come for him to become a leader and do what's best.
So he is put in charge of the team at the university hospital, but the thing is, under his leadership the team does its job perfectly, which unfortunately backfires by making the hospital earn less while saving more patients.
In many ways, the series goes above and beyond to show Baek Kang-hyeok as a hero. We see that he has everything to be one: he is self-confident, he has knowledge, and his personality doesn't allow him to have even a small setback.
The show really knows how to keep you entertained. It has all the familiar tropes, larger-than-life characters, over-the-top drama, and just enough emotional pull to keep you hooked. As we said, at the same time it manages to be a comedy; a really funny one, in fact.
Of course, the show is far from reality, but who needs that in a hit Netflix K-drama?
“The plot remained interesting throughout. It was serious and funny at the same time. It very much felt like the writers made a nicely packed 8 episodes series, thinking "there is room for more" if they get renewed but at the same time, keeping in mind that if they only get 8 episodes, it should be a finished package,” Redditor GravityBlues3346 said.
The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call is available to stream on Netflix.
