Did you think the new crime project would offer strong drama and a gripping investigation full of mysteries? The only real mystery here is how this show got greenlit in the first place.

We had Sherlock from the BBC. We had Korean Miss Sherlock. After all, we had CBS' Elementary starring incomparable Lucy Liu as John Watson. And what now?

In 2024, CBS released a show, this time focusing only on Watson. The result? A crime scene so baffling, even Holmes himself wouldn't bother solving it.

Watson Received Nothing but Criticism From Viewers

It would seem that after so many years of different interpretations of the classic story, the creators of the Holmes and Watson projects should have learned from the mistakes made before them.

Watson proves that while it is good to learn from other people's mistakes, in reality it is almost impossible. Fans had high hopes for the new series starring Morris Chestnut, and got nothing but disappointment.

Watson Has Been Renewed for a Second Season by CBS

CBS's Watson has a 33% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and mostly negative reviews from viewers. What do network executives do when this happens? Right, they renew the show. You heard that right, Watson is getting a second season. Redditor Herramadur wrote:

“This show is bad even for a network procedural, I'm happy for Morris Chestnut but the writing on this show is amateurish to the extreme.”

And let's face it, that comment is a pretty gentle way to describe this snooze-fest of a show.

CBS's Show Is Full of Plot Holes and Ridiculous Storylines

Let's start off with the premise. Sherlock is now dead at the hands of Moriarty, and Watson is treating patients with rare diseases and running the hospital that Holmes left him. Sounds promising, right? Wrong.

The series begins with an absurd situation – Watson, following Sherlock, jumps into a waterfall that looks obviously deadly dangerous. How would you help a person who jumped into a waterfall by jumping into the same waterfall? Doesn't matter. And, of course, Watson survives.

And if you thought the writers had turned a character known for being smart, capable, and occasionally hilarious into an illogical, suicidal kamikaze just to set up the main plot, think again.

Then Watson remembers that he managed to catch a glimpse of Moriarty, and he has syndactyly – the second and third fingers are fused together to form... the letter M. Yes, because Moriarty.

Worst of All – Watson Is Simply Boring

These are by far not all the absurd script decisions made in the first episode alone – believe me, the entire series is full of plot holes and dialogue worse than in soap operas.

But the worst part? It's boring. A show about a genius doctor-turned-detective should be sharp, witty, and thrilling. Instead, Watson is like watching paint dry.

Do yourself a favor and rewatch Sherlock instead. Or literally anything else. Even staring at a wall is more entertaining.
