'Chainsaw Man' Season 2: Plot, Release Date & Everything We Know About the Upcoming Chapter
The second season promises to be the darkest and most brutal in the franchise's history.
To celebrate its 15th anniversary on June 19, MAPPA Studio held a large-scale presentation of new projects. Among them was the highly anticipated announcement of the second season of the anime Chainsaw Man, titled Assassins Arc.
The first season premiered in 2022, and later viewers were treated to the feature-length movie Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc. Fans are now eagerly awaiting the new chapter, which promises to be the darkest in the franchise's history.
When Will 'Chainsaw Man' Season 2 Be Released?
The exact release date for the second season has not yet been revealed. MAPPA released a one-and-a-half-minute teaser with no information about the release date.
Assuming a similar timeline to that of the first season and the movie, Assassins Arc could be released as early as late 2028.
However, since Reze Arc was announced in December 2023 and released in September 2025, the second season could be released as early as late 2027.

The second season will continue the plot of the manga and focus on the Assassins Arc. After his battle with Reze, Denji becomes known worldwide, and footage of him appears on television.
Governments around the world realize Chainsaw Man's power and send their best hitmen to Tokyo to retrieve the demon's heart.
Several antagonists are introduced in this arc: the Chinese mercenary Quanxi, the mysterious Santa Claus from Germany, and three shape-shifting brothers from the US. Additionally, the Darkness Devil, who personifies humanity's primal fear of the dark and the unknown, makes an appearance.
The narrative tone shifts to an even darker and more violent one in this arc, raising the stakes. The second season will continue developing two key plotlines: the mysterious door from Denji's dreams through which Pochita's voice is heard and Makima's true identity, which is clearly different from what she claims.
What Happened in 'Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc'?
Reze Arc picks up where the first season left off, focusing on the Bomb Girl Arc. Denji continues working for the Public Safety Bureau while secretly pining for Makima.
One day, he accidentally meets Reze, a girl who works at a nearby cafe. The two teenagers begin to chat, and they develop a connection. Reze becomes more of a friend than a lover to Denji.
Suddenly, it turns out that Reze is not an ordinary, sweet girl but a trained Soviet spy called the Bomb Devil, who is capable of exploding her own body – her main goal is to take Denji's heart.
In the end, after a lengthy battle, Denji stops the Bomb Devil but does not hand her over to the Bureau. Instead, he invites her to escape and promises to wait for her at the cafe. On her way there, Makima kills Reze.
