Check Out David Tennant as a Serial Killer in This 97%-Rated Rated British Drama
The story really gets you hooked.
There are very few actors who do everything perfectly. They play villains as well as cops and family men. And you believe them every time they appear on your screen. One of such actors is definitely the amazing David Tennant.
It seems like it doesn't matter who he plays, he owns the role and gives the performance of his life every time. But it wasn't until we saw this miniseries that we became 100% sure that we were absolutely right to put Tennant on a pedestal.
You may remember him from the recent show Rivals, or maybe he's still Doctor Who to you, but don't miss the chance to check out the British miniseries called Des if you loved the actor in anything you saw him do.
What Is Des About & Is It Worth Watching?
Des is a three-part miniseries that premiered in 2020 and blew away the minds of the viewers. The premise of the show is cold, but the way it was written and filmed deserves the praise it got at the end. The series received a 90% critics score and an even more impressive 97% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.
Des is based on a true story that happened in 1983 to a Scottish serial killer named Dennis Nilsen. The man was caught when it was discovered that the blockage of a drain near his home in London was caused by human remains.
Tennant’s performance in this series was exceptional, with audiences and critics claiming this was one of his best roles ever played. So when in 2021 the actor won an Emmy Award for Best Actor for it, nobody was surprised.
Another amazing thing about the show is that it was very polite in the way it touched on the sensitive side of the story, the murders themselves. The director never shows them, and it just adds another layer to the story. And we also never get to know why this seemingly adequate person ends up being the monster that he really is. So there's another aspect to think about.
“This was excellent. I've never seen such a matter of fact and dare I say 'normal' depiction of a serial killer before. What an odd individual. As likely to murder you as offer a cup of tea,” Redditor Pheerandlowthing said.
Des is available to stream on ITV, and you can also purchase it on Prime Video or AppleTV+.
