We all love Chief Boden, but for goodness’ sake, he’s been doing it for seasons!

Summary:

  • Chief Wallace Boden is one of the most beloved Chicago Fire characters and a true professional.
  • However, fans find Boden’s favoritism incredibly frustrating, seeing how he dismisses anyone who isn’t his “patron.”
  • Violet Mikami especially suffers from that, since Boden dismisses her words every time and she has to jump through hoops to prove herself right.

Chicago Fire has great characters. They feel like real people, often being compelling but also generally imperfect. Everyone has their strengths and flaws, and we love them for it.

We love Chief Wallace Boden, in particular, as much as the other veterans… But amid all tender feelings fans hold to the man, he can also be frustratingly annoying. One particular flaw of Boden’s irks fans to no end.

Chief Boden Doesn’t Ever Trust Violet

Violet Mikami is a great person and a professional paramedic. No one in their right mind would claim she doesn’t know how to do her job; and no one would ever call her an impulsive liar. However, right mind or not, one man just doesn’t ever believe Violet — and that’s, you guessed it, our good old Chief Wallace Boden.

No matter how obvious the situation is; how crystal-clear Violet’s assessment is; no matter what she says, really — Boden reacts with his classic “I find that hard to believe.” And off Violet goes, jumping through hoops just to prove herself right while it was obvious from the start. Time and time again, Violet turns out to be correct; and time and time again, Boden keeps brushing off her every word.

Chief Boden Always Plays Favorites

Chicago Fire fans see this extremely annoying feature of Boden and Violet’s interactions as the extension of the Chief’s other frustrating quality: his unhinged favoritism. Throughout the twelve seasons, there have only been three subordinates who were “worthy” of Wallace Boden’s trust and patronage, and Violet isn’t one.

“Yeah, I've noticed that as well. <...> Love Boden, but the blatant favoritism he shows toward characters like Kidd, Severide, and Casey (and Gabby when she was on the show) gets on my nerves at times,” Reddit user gato_go_meow remarked.

Since Violet Mikami is not a “chosen one” in Chief Boden’s eyes, he doesn’t have an issue dismissing her at every opportunity. But at this point, many seasons in, his attitude to her is genuinely infuriating: she’s pretty much almost right, come on!
