  • In an ongoing season 12, there cast will experience several changes, including two departures and a new teammember joining in.
  • Showrunner Andrea Newman is interested in exploring more unexpected pairing dynamics.

Though the initial excitement of the Chicago Fire's comeback has worn off, fans are still head over heels for the prospects that this season holds.

While there is surely a part of the audience that is unhappy with all the changes, the other part welcomes them all, happy to see things shaken up.

From what we already know, season 12 of Chicago Fire will see the departure of two valuable members of the team.

In the premiere episode, viewers had a chance to say goodbye to Alberto Rosende's Blake Gallo, and Kara Killmer's Sylvie Brett is next in line to follow in his footsteps.

What we didn't know is that the show will also put Herrmann and Mouch in jeopardy. Season 12 won't be all doom and gloom, though, the team behind Chicago Fire promises.

If anything, the challenges will only bring the team closer together. Even the members of the team that viewers don't expect to come together.

Andrea Newman About Chicago Fire Season 12

Not only will we return to see all of our favorite characters strengthen their bond even more than before, but there is a good chance that we will explore a dynamic that Chicago Fire has never seen before.

The procedural's executive producer and showrunner told The Hollywood Reporter in a recent interview:

“You’ve seen these arcs for these characters, but you are finding new dimensions all the time. And that’s what I’m excited to do this year: New pairings, people we haven’t maybe seen work together or get tight before. Exploring all those character dynamics a little more,” Newman said.

With Kara Killmer leaving the show, the station would be in need of another paramedic. Also, we have already met another firefighter who joins the team, Gibson, portrayed by Rome Flynn.

Considering how important the interpersonal relationships between the characters are to viewer satisfaction, there is already a lot to discover and explore with him.

Aside from new characters, the dynamics of the team tend to change with the mere fact of Severide's comeback and Herrmann's attempts to hide his severe hearing loss after the incident in the first episode. These storylines seem to bring more much-needed drama to the season, and we're already here to see it unfold.
