Strap yourself in for the last adventure.

Summary:

  • Chicago Fire is an NBC procedural drama that is part of the One Chicago TV Universe.
  • The show is returning with its 12th season, which will be the last for two characters, Blake Gallo and Sylvie Brett.
  • According to Chicago Fire boss Andrea Newman, Brett will have quite a challenging run before her exit.

To say that the return of Chicago Fire was highly anticipated by fans would be an understatement. While the entire television industry was reeling from the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Chicago Fire was dealing with its own set of challenges, including Taylor Kinney's leave of absence.

Now that Kinney has rejoined the cast and his Kelly Severide is set to return to fans' screens, the challenges aren't over.

In season 12, which premieres Wednesday, January 17, Chicago Fire will have to deal with two departures. Luckily for fans, the future for both Blake Gallo and Sylvie Brett outside of Firehouse 51 still looks bright.

However, the road to that future may not be the easiest. That's especially true for Kara Killmer's Sylvie Brett, who has been promised a handful of episodes before leaving Chicago for good.

Although the real answer that Sylvie will give Matt to his proposal will not be known until after the season premiere, many fans believe that the matter is already decided. After all, if there are any two people who deserve a romantic happy ending, it's these two.

But even if Sylvie does say ‘yes’ and becomes a happy bride, she'll still face some challenges on her way out of Chicago and into her new married life. At least that's what Chicago Fire executive producer and showrunner Andrea Newman teased in her interview with TVLine.

“It’s a rollercoaster for [Brett] this season. She’s got a lot of big action, actually, this year, and she’s making lots of plans that keep having wrenches thrown at them. So she’s readjusting on the fly. But she’s got a lot of great hero stuff this season,” she said.

Perhaps the sudden wedding and the move to another state are some of the difficulties that didn't really fit into Sylvie's professional plans.

However, many fans are hoping for a happy ending for this couple, and considering how much more reasonable Sylvie is than Casey's infamous ex, Gabriela Dawson, they must be able to work things out.

Unfortunately, there won't be as much to tell about Blake Gallo, played by Alberto Rosende, and his exit. The actor will only appear in the first episode of the season, so be prepared to say goodbye sooner rather than later.

Chicago Fire returns on Wednesday, January 17, and will continue to air in the same time slot on NBC. Be sure to tune in so you don't miss any of the twists!
