She ended up exactly where she needed to.

Summary:

  • Chicago Fire is an NBC procedural drama that has been on the air since 2012.
  • The episode Port in the Storm marks the departure of series veteran Kara Killmer and her character, Sylvie Brett.
  • As Killmer explains, Sylvie has come full circle since her first appearance, and now is the perfect opportunity to let her go on a high.

Like any other show that has been on the air for more than a decade, Chicago Fire is facing some major difficulties, and season 12 is the one that will show how the writers are going to lead the viewers through the times of change.

With some actors temporarily stepping away from their characters and others leaving for good, the procedural desperately needs to sweeten the pill before every other viewer decides they are no longer interested.

The wedding of Matt Casey and Sylvie Brett was the best way to exit the character from the show, but make it a celebration.

Not only does it give hope for a rare happy ending on Chicago Fire, but it also allows both characters to continue to grow outside of the windy city, in completely new and different roles.

What Happens to Sylvie Brett in Chicago Fire?

Any goodbye is always bittersweet, but no one is happier with how Sylvie Brett's life has turned out than the actress who has portrayed her through all the ups and downs for the past 10 years, Kara Killmer. She believes that the writers have worked their magic on her character in a way that perfectly rounds out her arc.

Killmer shared her thoughts on where Brett ends up in an interview with TVLine:

“I sort of love that she started her journey [when] she was dumped at the altar by her high school boyfriend and runs off to Chicago to start over again, and I love that she ends up across the aisle from the love of her life and, obviously, the most eligible bachelor in all of Chicago and Portland,” she said.

Although some fans feel that Chicago Fire could have done more with Sylvie's professional development, the actress is just as happy with the kind of paramedic her character has become over the years. If anything, the perfect husband aside, taking a job at Firehouse 51 has made her more confident than she ever was.

For now, Sylvie Brett and Matt Casey will be off the show, exploring blissful married life and finally embracing the happiness they both tried to deny themselves far too many times. But who knows what the future will bring.

If Kara Killmes isn't against the idea of a return, we might hear from Brett in Chicago after a while.

If you want to see what kind of surprises Chicago Fire's most romantic wedding yet has in store, be sure to tune in to NBC on Wednesday and not miss Kara Killmer's farewell episode, Port in the Storm.
