After all this time, we’re not sure whether to exhale peacefully or inhale sharply.

Summary:

  • Chicago PD’s most beloved and notorious couple, Burgess and Ruzek have been having a romantic back-and-forth for seasons now.
  • The couple’s Season 11 engagement inspired new hope in Burzek fans, but they are afraid to believe this is finally it.
  • Marina Squerciati, the Kim Burgess star, recently confirmed that the “bait-and-switch is over” and Burzek is officially endgame.

If there’s one thing every newcomer must know about the One Chicago shows, it’s that they love their drama. Seriously, you’d bet that the lives of firefighters, doctors, and policemen are exciting and dramatic enough already — but without that extra pinch of romantic back-and-forth, no show can truly be considered a Dick Wolf’s special. Chicago PD, for one, has truly succeeded in making us sweat over that.

Wake Up in the Morning, You Got Burzek on Your Mind

Don’t get us wrong: there are many great romantic couples in Chicago PD, and we love them all… Well, almost all; if you know, you know. But the relationship between Kim Burgess and Adam Ruzek has always been everyone’s favorite thorn in their backside as it’s been ages since their notorious bait-and-switch drama began.

Every Chicago PD fan knows exactly what we’re talking about. Burgess and Ruzek have been on the verge of their much-anticipated happily ever after one too many times, but something went terribly wrong every single time. The couple’s Season 11 engagement didn’t exactly bring us much hope thanks to their history: how do we know they won’t break up yet again in a few episodes’ time?

Kim Burgess Star Says the Couple Is Endgame Now

Believe it or not, after all this time, there’s finally some promising news from Marina Squerciati. The Kim Burgess actress recently spoke to NBC Insider and addressed her and Patrick John Flueger’s characters’ relationship. According to the Chicago PD star, fans can finally relax as there won’t be any unpleasant surprises this time.

“The bait-and-switch for Ruzek and Burgess is over. They'll go through stuff, but they're together now. They're the couple that we rely on… They're each going to go through things as one does in life and in marriage, but we're safe. I think we're safe,” Squerciati promised.

At this point, we’re genuinely afraid to believe the actress, but the statement sounds solid, save for the “I think” part. On one hand, we’ve been ready to cheer for Burzek since day one; on the other hand, we’ve been burnt too many times now. But hey, at least it won’t be long until we learn whether Marina Squerciati was right.

We’re heading for the endgame, folks!

Do you think Burzek is safe now?
