Chris Pratt Returns for More Lasagna — But 'Garfields' Sequel Has a Twist

Something about this sequel isn’t quite as expected.
The world’s most iconic orange cat is coming back — and so is Chris Pratt. Following the surprising box office success of The Garfield Movie (2024), which clawed in over $230 million worldwide, a sequel is officially in the works. Pratt will once again lend his voice to the lasagna-loving feline who despises Mondays and adores himself in equal measure.
But there’s a curious wrinkle this time around. While Pratt is firmly attached — and, in fact, stepping up as a producer — the project is still without a writer or director. A confident move, perhaps? Or just the nature of early development in today’s animation world? Many would agree: starting with a star and building the rest later is increasingly common, if still a little unconventional.
Behind the scenes, the same key players are returning. Alcon Entertainment, which acquired the rights to Garfield from creator Jim Davis ahead of the first film, is producing once again. DNEG Animation is also back on board. Davis himself remains involved as executive producer, with Bridget McMeel from Amuse joining him in that role.
So yes, Garfield’s back — and clearly in good company. But with no creative team officially announced yet, fans might wonder: Should we expect a new flavour — or just a second helping?
