1. The Life of Chuck

Mike Flanagan has shown an amazing talent for bringing Stephen King stories to life, with such outstanding adaptations as Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep. Flanagan once again dives into King’s world, this time taking on the challenge of adapting The Life of Chuck, starring, get ready… Mark Hamill and Tom Hiddleston.

2. Fairy Tale

The plot of the movie will be based on the recent novel by Stephen King, which tells the story of teenager Charlie. After the death of his elderly friend, he finds a tape with a story about another, some kind of fairy tale world, and then the portal there. The director will be the man who helmed The Bourne Supremacy – Paul Greengrass.

3. Christine

The remake of the already cult story will be directed by Bryan Fuller, who vows to follow the letter of the novel as much as possible, because he is its big fan. Christine is King’s relatively early novel, first published in 1983 and adapted the same year by John Carpenter.

4. Salem’s Lot

The plot revolves around a writer who comes to his hometown and discovers that all the townspeople are slowly turning into vampires. The film’s director and writer is Gary Dauberman, who also wrote both parts of It’s adaptation.

5. Elevation

In 2021, Jack Bender, one of the directors of The Sopranos and Game of Thrones, said he was working on an adaptation of Elevation.

The book tells the story of a man who rapidly loses weight, even though outwardly he remains absolutely the same.

6. The Running Man

In 2021, it was announced that Edgar Wright, known for the movies Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Shaun of the Dead, will direct a movie based on Stephen King’s book The Running Man.

The fantasy novel told the story of a future in which poor people are forced to participate in violent game shows. The main character Ben was played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 film adaptation.

7. The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon

Lynne Ramsay, best known for You Were Never Really Here, will direct the new adaptation of Stephen King’s The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon.

The psychological thriller follows 12-year-old Trisha, who gets lost on a family camping trip. Getting further away from civilization, she finds salvation in a pocket radio that broadcasts baseball games. Trisha is in love with pitcher Tom Gordon and fantasizes that he will rescue her.

8. Billy Summers

The movie is being developed by J. J. Abrams’ production company Bad Robot and Appian Way, which is owned by Leonardo DiCaprio.

It is still unknown who will direct and star in the movie. But the press is predicting that Abrams himself will sit in the director's chair and DiCaprio will play the main role. And this is probably the adaptation we're most excited about.

9. From A Buick 8

From A Buick 8 is reminiscent of King’s other mystery car story, Christine. A local police officer is killed in a drunk-driving accident. His son takes over the investigation, and the evidence leads him to the police department garage, where a mysterious car has been parked for years.

In 2018, it was announced that Jim Mickle will direct the movie, but since then, there were no updates on the progress of filming.

10. The Little Green God of Agony

The rights to King’s work were acquired by The Walking Dead showrunner Ian Goldberg and the same show’s screenwriter Richard Naing.

According to the plot, the millionaire, who miraculously survived a plane crash, is in terrible pain. The preacher who comes to his aid claims that he is possessed by a demon of agony.
