Jennifer Lawrence has proven herself to be quite the chameleon. I mean, what can't she do? We've seen her in a dystopian sci-fi (Hunger Games franchise). She was brilliant in the horror genre (Mother!) She even did Marvel (say hi to Mystique). The woman is a powerhouse, no question asked.
But it's her comedic timing that's perhaps the most surprising weapon in her arsenal. When Lawrence lets loose and embraces humor, she's a force to be reckoned with.
I've been sold on her comedy since Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle. And this brings me to her latest venture into comedy, a film that became controversial even before it came out.

No Hard Feelings tells the story of Maddie, a woman who faces a financial crisis and responds to an unusual Craigslist ad in hopes to get some money. Behind this ad is a rich couple who's looking for someone to “date” their introverted 19-year-old son before he heads off to college.
Having watched it twice now (yes, it's that good), I can say it's the kind of movie that will definitely keep you entertained. It's outrageous, sure, but it's also surprisingly sweet at its core.
The chemistry between the characters is unexpectedly charming, and the humor, while definitely pushing boundaries, never feels mean-spirited.
What Jennifer Lawrence Thinks of That Age Gap in No Hard Feelings
Now, I bet you can already imagine how the movie was received. The age gap between the characters sparked quite a debate. Yet I personally think that the film actually handles this potentially problematic story with surprising thoughtfulness.
Lawrence herself addressed the film's divisive nature head-on. In an interview to Sky News, she said:
“I think it's time for just a good old-fashioned laugh. And it really is hard to make a comedy where you're not offending people. Everybody in some sense will be offended by this film – you're welcome.”

I think to decide everything for yourself, it's better to give No Hard Feeling a chance before it leaves Netflix on April 21st. Yes, it's provocative. Yes, it pushes boundaries. But it also delivers genuine laughs, unexpected heart, and reminds us that the best medicine for our too-serious world is a healthy dose of unfiltered humor. Seriously, give it a shot.
