Some believe the actor may leave the show after his arc ends due to fan toxicity.

Summary

  • Bridgerton Season 3 will focus on the romance between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.
  • After that, however, fans believe that Colin's Luke Newton might leave the series.
  • But considering that there will be a Season 4, there are enough arguments why the actor will still stay on the project.

It's been more than a year since the second season of Bridgerton, a series about romance in Regency-era London high society, debuted. And as fans reminisce about the highlights of previous seasons, rumors about the show's future continue to swirl.

While Season 3 is one of Netflix 's most anticipated premieres, hopefully arriving in 2024, fans are looking much further ahead, as the streaming service announced a fourth season at the same time. With that in mind, viewers continue to speculate about whether Luke Newton will leave the show, as his character, Colin Bridgerton, will get his own arc in Season 3.

What Will Season 3 Be About?

The next season of Bridgerton will skip Julia Quinn's third novel, as it will be based on the fourth book in the series, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, which focuses on the courtship between Colin, the third eldest son of the family, and Penelope Featherington. Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan, the stars who portray these two characters, are ready to take center stage in the new season of Bridgerton.

In the Season 2 finale, Penelope's storyline was at a low point. She had a falling out with Eloise (Claudia Jessie) after the latter discovered that Penelope was the notorious gossip writer Lady Whistledown. Colin also deeply offended Pen when she caught him making a joke about courting her in front of his male friends at a ball, even though he had just confessed to her that she had always been special to him.

Fans are excited that the upcoming season will focus on Polin, as the actors have developed an incredibly touching chemistry since Season 1. Unfortunately, this may also be one of the reasons why Newton may leave the show after three seasons — the whole problem is how toxic fans can sometimes be.

Newton May Leave the Show After Season 3, Some Fans Believe

Unfortunately, some fans don't know how to separate the characters from the cast and project their feelings onto the actors. Thus, every misunderstanding between Colin and Pen led to toxic attitudes towards the actors themselves. When Polin's story didn't progress as quickly as some fans would have liked, Newton and Coughlan also received a lot of backlash.

But perhaps the most disturbing moment came when some people who actively shipped not only the characters, but also their actors, began attacking Newton's real-life partner, Jade Louise Davies. As a result of all the abuse described, first the actor himself and then Davies deleted their social media accounts.

As a result, this may influence Luke Newton's decision to leave the project after his storyline with Penelope is over. The trend has already been set by Regé-Jean Page, who left the series after the first season. However, his decision was not motivated by fan toxicity, but by a personal decision and career path.

However, It Can Be Argued That This Will Not Happen

Even though the Polin arc will end in Season 3, that doesn't mean that Luke Newton won't get a chance to appear on screen next time. Yes, the role will certainly be reduced as the focus will be on the other Bridgertons, but according to the books, the character appears in almost every novel, or at least is mentioned.

Moreover, considering that Newton is just at the beginning of his career, the decision to leave Bridgerton would be quite a disadvantage: even without a proper arc, the series is sure to offer a very good and stable pay, and the reduced screen time and irregular release of seasons can allow the actor to focus on other projects.
