Holt McCallany teased that there may eventually be a Mindhunter continuation, but not a third season. Here's what the actor shared.

Monstrous. Indescribable. There aren't enough words to describe how disappointing it is that Mindhunter was canceled. The David Fincher series was a true masterpiece. It's a work that should have been remembered with bated breath, like The Sopranos and The Wire.

However, Netflix bosses cut it off at its peak. David Fincher explained that the streaming service expected higher viewership, though he is proud of the quality of the first two seasons.

Six years have passed since the second season finale, yet fans have not lost hope that they will one day see a third season of Mindhunter. After all, such a brilliant series cannot simply fade into obscurity.

And it seems that talks about continuing the series have finally moved forward. Mindhunter star Holt McCallany, who played Bill Tench, hinted that there will be a continuation.

According to McCallany, Fincher wants to make three full-length movies, not a third season:

“I had a meeting with David Fincher in his office a few months ago, and he said to me that there is a chance that it may come back as three two-hour movies, but I think it's just a chance. I know there are writers that are working, but you know, David has to be happy with scripts.”

McCallany also emphasized that the chances are still very slim:

“He gave me a little bit of hope when I had that meeting with him, but the sun, the moon, and the stars would all have to align.”

'Minghunter' Fans' Hopes Are Higher Than Ever

As expected, the news has delighted Mindhunter fans. Many viewers are eager to see how the BTK storyline will unfold. Reddit user Roscoe_King wrote:

“This show did serial-killer in a way nobody else did. And we need to see the end of the BTK arc.”

In its second and final season, the story of the first FBI profilers showed an investigation into the murders of children in Atlanta. There was also a second storyline dedicated to BTK, serial killer Dennis Rader, who had not yet been caught at the time.

It seemed that the BTK storyline would be the most dramatic investigation in Mindhunter's history, but we already know what happened next.

All that remains is to hope that the sun, the moon, and the stars will align and Mindhunter will finally get the continuation it deserves.
