Crystal Lake easter eggs: 13 Friday the 13th references — how many did you catch?
Crystal Lake starts winking at Friday the 13th fans before you've learned anyone's name.
Peacock's prequel series, produced by A24 and run by Brad Caleb Kane, dropped all eight episodes on October 15. Linda Cardellini plays Pamela Voorhees years before the events of the 1980 film, and most of the season takes place in 1972. The show is aimed squarely at people who know the movies by heart, and it rewards them almost every episode. Spoilers for the whole season below.

The 13 references
- The title card (episode 1). The show's title smashes through glass in the same 3D lettering as the 1980 original, with some blood added. Harry Manfredini, who scored the original film, wrote new music for the series.
- The camp sign (episode 1). The entrance sign at Camp Crystal Lake matches the one from the first film.
- The sound (episode 1). The whispered cue that signals Jason's point of view in the movies, also Manfredini's, is back from the pilot on.
- The snake (episode 1). Pam finds a snake in the camp kitchen, traps it in a bucket and lets it go in the woods. In the 1980 film, Alice finds one in a cabin and Bill chops it up with a machete. A second snake shows up later in the season, and this time it doesn't get away.
- Hodder McKane (episode 1). The town's Founders Day honors a founder named Hodder McKane, a nod to Kane Hodder, who played Jason in four films starting with Part VII.
- The canoe (episode 2). Pam rows out on the lake and a rotting figure rises out of the water behind her, a riff on the original film's famous final scare.
- Packanack Lodge (episode 2). Pam attends a seminar at a place called Packanack Lodge, the name of the counselor training center in Friday the 13th Part 2.
- The hitchhiker (episode 4). Willow, a hitchhiker, walks into town, talks with Trudy at Hartung's Diner and ends up chased through the woods. It plays like Annie's arrival in the 1980 film, right down to the diner, which the show shot in Blairstown, New Jersey, the same town as the original.
- The sweater (episode 5). Cardellini wears a reproduction of the ice-blue knit sweater Betsy Palmer wore as Mrs. Voorhees in the original's climax.
- The boathouse (episode 5). Counselors Barry and Claudette sneak off to the boathouse and are murdered, shot for shot like the first kill in the 1980 film, until the killer's face is shown.
- Ned's actor (episode 6). The boss of Briana, a journalist investigating the camp, is played by Mark Nelson, who played the prankster counselor Ned in the original.
- Elias (late in the season). Jason's father finally gets a face and a name, Elias, played by Hamish Linklater. The name comes from Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday.
- The sack (episode 8). Grown Jason wears a burlap sack with a single eyehole, his look from Part 2. Look closely at the sack and it reads "SS Lazarus," the name of the ship in Jason Takes Manhattan.

A few extras
The list doesn't stop at 13. Crazy Ralph, the first film's doom-saying local, is back, as are Officer Dorf, Trudy at the diner and Enos, the truck driver, all younger than when audiences first met them. Steve Christy, who runs the camp in 1980, shows up as a teenage counselor telling campfire stories. And Pamela gets a line straight out of the original: "Jason should have been watched."
