There are so many new crime shows these days that it's easy to get lost in the shuffle – but these five top-quality projects are definitely worth watching.
Recently, a new season of the detective series Dark Winds was released, which has maintained the bar for all three seasons – in three years, it has never received a score lower than 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
We have decided to remind you of other true gems of the genre, in which the viewers have not found a single flaw.
1. Dark Winds, 2022-...
A police duo investigates a crime on an Indian reservation in the 1970s. A helicopter carrying criminals with stolen gold crashes on Navajo land.
This event triggers a chain of events that involves local residents. Police officers Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee must confront many moral dilemmas and past traumas.
The series is based on Tony Hillerman's iconic and culturally important series about the Native police duo Leaphorn and Chee. The adventures of the characters became one of the most important things in the author's life – Hillerman, fascinated by Navajo culture, published 18 books in 36 years.
2. Toxic Town, 2025
Two women, Susan and Tracey, meet in the maternity ward in Corby. The births of both women are marred by health problems: Susan's son is born with a deformed arm, and Tracey's daughter dies a few days later.
After some time, the women realize that there are many mothers in the area who have had similar experiences. It becomes clear that the cause may be the demolition of the former steel mill, and the cleanup of the site has spread toxic waste throughout Corby. The women band together to bring the culprits to justice.
The series is based on real events – the people of Corby found out that after the demolition of the plant, toxic waste leaked into the soil and water and spread throughout the town, causing the birth of children with disabilities.
3. Black Snow, 2022-...
In 1994, 17-year-old Isabel Baker was murdered. The crime rocked the small town of Ashford and sent shockwaves through the South Seas community where Isabel lived.
The case was never solved, and the killer was never found. But in 2019, the discovery of a time capsule reveals a mystery that puts Detective James Cormack on the trail of the killer.
Led by Travis Fimmel's compelling performance, the series delivers suspense, layered storytelling, and haunting twists. Black Snow is a rather leisurely show that focuses on gradually unraveling a tangled web of mysteries.
4. Bosch: Legacy, 2022-2025
The show follows retired detective Harry Bosch as he becomes a private investigator, taking on unsolved cases while navigating a strained relationship with his daughter Maddie, a rookie cop.
The Bosch spin-off maintains its gritty tone as it explores corruption, crime, and moral dilemmas in Los Angeles. As Bosch uncovers dark truths, Maddie faces dangers of her own that test their bond.
Bosch: Legacy will appeal to fans of crime thrillers and noir novels, especially those familiar with the world of Michael Connelly, on whose works the series is based. The plot combines criminal investigation, political ambition, and moral dilemmas.
5. River, 2015
The eight-episode miniseries follows London police officer John River. His job is unusual because his unique gift allows him to see the souls of the murdered people whose cases he handles.
Working in the police force with such abilities is not easy – while investigating crimes, John dreams more than anything else of getting rid of the visions of the ghosts of those who have never been able to find peace.
