After traveling through France and briefly visiting the UK, Daryl and Carol attempt to sail home. However, a terrible storm pushes their ship onto the coast of Spain.

Their goal now is to repair the vessel. But, as always, their plans are disrupted when they become embroiled in a conflict among local survivors.

The setting shifts to the fictional town of Solaz del Mar, where Daryl and Carol face a new threat: the El Alcázar community, which seeks to unite all settlements under its rule.

Season 3 Deepens the Daryl and Carol Relationship & Adds Interesting Secondary Characters

The dynamic between Daryl and Carol evolves in this season. Having learned from bitter experience, Daryl wants to leave as soon as possible to avoid getting involved in other people's problems and protect Carol.

Having found healing for old wounds in Europe, Carol cannot remain aloof from injustice. This conflict makes their relationship even more touching and human.

The series also adds memorable new characters: Federico de Rivera, who is forced to make cruel decisions to ensure the survival of his people, and Antonio, who is torn between his duty to the community and his desire to care for his son.

Season 3 Hints at Rick Grimes' Younger Brother

The creators delighted fans with canonical fan service. In one of the dialogues, Daryl mentions Jeffrey Grimes, Rick's younger brother whose fate in the show's universe has been shrouded in mystery until now.

The spin-off comic The Walking Dead: The Alien reveals that this character died in Barcelona, and the series confirms his existence in that reality.
