Dave Franco’s Most Hilarious ‘The Studio’ Moment Wasn’t Even in the Script

Seth Rogen’s hit satire series went completely crazy after introducing Dave Franco in the latest episodes, with the actor’s double role becoming a pure improv and also including a nod to his 2013 heist film — here’s how all of this came together.
Things got completely out of control in The Studio’s season 1 final episodes where the show introduced a new favorite duo of celebrities losing it all ahead of a very important presentation at the CinemaCon.
The show’s episode 10 titled “Presentation” picks up right where the previous episode left off, also featuring a surprising and still pretty messy recap of that wild mushroom party from Dave Franco.
The actor’s double role of himself and then the show’s narrator had fans voting for The Studio as the best series with the most epic “Previously on…” introduction — which, even more surprisingly, wasn’t a part of the plan anyway.
‘The Studio’ Episode 10 Drunken Recap Was Dave Franco’s Last-Minute Idea
It’s fair to say the show’s fans were dying to know whether the actor would return after being on full party animal mode in episode 9.
This is why Franco was certainly the best person to make an improvised recap which no one, except for the actor and Seth Rogen, had an idea about.
“He does the recap of the 'previously on the episode.' And they probably haven't seen it because it wasn't in the script. But it's a drunk Dave Franco describing what happened in the previous episode”, Rogen explained to his co-stars during a recent interview with People, also adding that he had greenlit the idea just because it was very silly and, well, fit perfectly in the series’ tone.
Franco, in his turn, suggested that it would be cool to let the viewers know about his party still going on the next morning.
“[The voiceover] was literally me — I had that idea and texted him and sent it to him and he recorded it on his phone within 10 minutes”, Franco revealed.
Dave Franco’s Narrator Role Features a Hilarious ‘Now You See Me’ Reference
In the episode’s recap of what happened at the CinemaCon pre-party, the actor starts with an introduction of himself and a confession that he’s “a little fu—ed up, but I'm gonna do my best to recap the last episode because a lot of s—t went down”.
He then proceeds to describe Griffin Mill’s escape and Zoë Kravitz’s fatal mistake with the chocolate filled with shrooms, wrapping the recap with a photo of him as his Now You See Me’s character Jack Wilder holding cards.
“Now listen, I gotta hit the tables and win tons of fu—ing money, cause I can count cards and s—t from those magic movies I was in. So enjoy the fu—ing episode! Vegas, baby!” the actor says until the episode goes back to Rogen’s Matt Remick and his team trying to locate Continental’s boss.
When Is ‘The Studio’ Season 2 Being Released?
