David Lynch’s 1986 Classic Movie Is on Prime Video Now

The world was shocked to find out about David Lynch’s untimely death a couple of months ago, but his cinematic legacy keeps living on and will continue to do so in the decades to come.

That said, the industry hasn’t stopped honouring the late maestro since, as one of the director’s most acclaimed movies has just found its new streaming home on Prime Video ’s platform.

Released all the way back in 1986, the movie stars Lynch’s favorite Kyle MacLachlan in the leading role and first opened to major backlash in regard to its artistic purpose, though was later on redeemed and given a cult classic status.

The director’s fans can now find another reason to give the movie one more rewatch as Blue Velvet has recently been added to Prime Video’s vast collection of films.

Starring Kyle MacLachlan and Isabella Rossellini, the film follows college student Jeffrey Beaumont whose return back home brings him down into the world of sex, drugs and utter violence.

However, all the fun is soon over when Jeffrey discovers a severed human ear in a field, prompting him to delve into the matter and uncover a major criminal conspiracy that has something to do with a local lounge singer.

Now the director’s legendary project, considered one of the best movies ever made, Blue Velvet had a long way to go before reaching grand success.

The film came as Lynch’s attempt to make something more personal after his adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune bombed in the box office, but Blue Velvet was met with harsh reviews from both critics and viewers questioning the movie’s artistic value with all that strong sexual and violent content included.

Despite controversies, the film brought Lynch his second Academy Award nomination in the Best Director category and in a few years was publicly reimagined, becoming the cult classic of the modern cinema.

Just like Lynch’s other hit movies like Mulholland Drive and Eraserhead, Blue Velvet remains a solid pop cultural phenomenon decades after its theatrical release.
