A reference to Glenn's death in season 2 of Dead City and a comment from a producer have increased the odds that Glenn isn't gone for good. Here's what Scott Gimple had to say.

Which character from The Walking Dead do you miss the most? Many will say Glenn, and it's easy to see why. Glenn was one of the best characters in the original series until he was brutally killed off in the first episode of Season 7.

However, Glenn may return, as hinted at by the producer of Dead City.

'The Walking Dead: Dead City' Referenced Glenn's Death

In The Walking Dead: Dead City, Maggie joins forces with Negan to fight the hostile Burazi faction in Manhattan.

Maggie has a hard time working with Negan because he killed Glenn. At that time, Negan was the ruthless leader of the Saviors. Then, Rick Grimes imprisoned him, and Negan changed his outlook on life.

At the end of Season 2 of Dead City, Maggie saw Negan brutally kill an enemy with a new bat. He chose the victim using a counting rhyme, just as he had with Glenn.

Maggie attacked Negan, believing he had reverted to his old self. However, Maggie realized that she couldn't kill him. She explained to her son, Hershel, that killing Negan would not help her cope with the emotional trauma but would only worsen the situation.

Producer Scott Gimple Says Glenn's Return Would "Be Enjoyable"

The counting scene reminded Maggie of Glenn, leading fans to assume that Steven Yeun would make a cameo in Season 3 of Dead City. The Walking Dead franchise has featured deceased characters in dream sequences and illusions before.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Scott Gimple was asked if Glenn would appear in a vision or flashback. The producer said it was possible:

“I think it comes to mind all the time. In some ways, it's a pretty obvious way to go. But it would obviously be enjoyable for all of us. Steven is a remarkably busy dude, though – not to say that these folks aren't. You never know, I guess I'd say, but we never went that far with it.”

Glenn's Actor Steven Yeun Has an Extremely Busy Schedule Right Now

So far, the only obstacle to Glenn's appearance in Dead City seems to be actor Steven Yeun's busy schedule. Redditor poofypossum wrote:

“[I'd] love to see him back, but i feel he has other projects that he is focused on. [...] there might be a small chance he comes back for a single scene like bernthal, but for him to be in multiple episodes is very not likely.”

In recent years, Steven Yeun's career has really taken off. He played the lead role in one of the best TV dramas of the past few years, Beef, appeared in Bong Joon-ho's sci-fi flick, Mickey 17, as well as a number of other high-profile projects. So, we can only hope for a small cameo.
