It looks like Hugh Jackman saved us from the most embarrassing Deadpool movie yet, because the original story was… Really, really, questionable.

Summary:

  • Before Hugh Jackman joined the Deadpool 3 cast, the movie had an entirely different concept.
  • According to the Dopinder actor, Deadpool 3 was supposed to be a roadtrip movie about the Merc with a Mouth saving Christmas.
  • Thankfully, Jackman’s reluctant decision to join the cast made Deadpool 3’s creators change the story.

Franchises are never exactly easy to pull off. Even if the first installment turns out successful, it sets a mark that can’t be dropped with the sequels, or the crowd will be fuming… And the Deadpool trilogy seemingly ran into this same problem after the second movie. Because otherwise, there’s no possible explanation to the third installment’s original concept that was recently revealed by its star!

Deadpool 3’s Original Concept Was Ridiculous

Believe it or not, there was a time before Ryan Reynolds finally frustrated Hugh Jackman into joining the Deadpool 3 cast — and in that time, there was, clearly, a very different story planned for the movie. No one had a clue what it was about, but a few days ago, the Dopinder actor Karan Soni revealed the original concept.

“I think [the initial plot is] online a little bit, so I can [talk about it]. It was going to be originally a roadtrip movie where Deadpool tries to save Christmas, so we all go to the North Pole,” Soni told Screen Rant.

A roadtrip movie with Deadpool saving Christmas and going to the North Pole… What kind of Grinch vibes were the creators on at the time? It looks like Hugh Jackman saved the entire movie by agreeing to join it, because otherwise, Deadpool 3 would have turned out to be a massive embarrassment. Saving Christmas, duh.

The savior of Deadpool 3 really didn’t feel like becoming one, though. For the longest time, we’ve been watching the battle of two stubborn superhero stars in real time: Ryan Reynolds was trying to convince the Wolverine star to reprise his iconic role “one last time,” and Hugh Jackman was repeatedly asking the man to kindly piss off.

In the end, it worked out, but it was largely because Reynolds proved to be a much more annoyingly insistent person than Jackman had anticipated.

The Wolverine actor agreed to accompany the Merc with a Mouth on his final adventure, and that changed the entire concept of Deadpool 3 — making fans happy and saving the film from the ridiculous roadtrip Christmas movie fate.
