Denis Villeneuve Hit Movie Written by Taylor Sheridan Will Land on Netflix Next Month
You probably never knew there was some connection between these too.
The owner of Paramount+’s most successful shows to-date, Taylor Sheridan has long been the one who brought us a bunch of hit Western-y series like Yellowstone, 1883, 1923 and Landman, but back in the day he was doing some other notable things too.
Having kicked his career off as an actor, Sheridan later moved on to writing, with his first written script eventually becoming Denis Villeneuve’s universally acclaimed movie. Sheridan’s major role in the film’s overall success has been overlooked for quite a long time, but this is likely to change once the flick arrives on Netflix in several weeks.
Sicario Will Be on Netflix Starting from March
The movie, initially released in 2015, is now set to land on Netflix on March 1.
Written by Taylor Sheridan for Denis Villeneuve’s directorial vision, Sicario stars Emily Blunt as Kate Macer, an FBI Special Agent tasked with tracking down the leader of a brutal Mexican drug cartel that aims to have full control over the US border territory as well.
Proving her ability to deal with high-risky missions in a male-dominated field, Kate joins an already assembled team with mysterious Alejandro as its lead, and together they’re set to use one cartel boss who will lead them to a bigger one.
Released several years prior to Sheridan’s first shows, Sicario explores themes similar to those that the writer implements in his own works too, delving into issues like justice that should have strict borders between the good and the bad, as well as the struggle for power that brings harsh consequences, to each their own.
Sicario Was Named One of the Best Movies of 2015
Upon its release, the movie received universal acclaim, garnering 92% and 85% from critics and viewers respectively on Rotten Tomatoes.
Still considered one of the best releases of its year and one of Villeneuve’s finest works, Sicario was a major box office hit too, earning around $85 million with the initial budget of $30 million.
The movie’s upcoming arrival on Netflix should become yet another proof of Sheridan’s cinematic legacy that made him a solid Hollywood contender even before he eventually turned to creating shows of his own.
