The leading actors may be the reason for the forgotten movie’s second life on streaming.

It seems to have been a week full of nostalgia for Netflix ’s viewers as they suddenly brought two old flicks to the streaming’s global top. Following Mark Wahlberg’s 2005 crime drama Four Brothers, the Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington thriller Safe House suddenly got a second chance twelve years after its initial release.

According to the recent data from FlixPatrol, Safe House is currently holding a third spot on Netflix’s global top 10, surpassed only by Four Brothers and the streaming’s newest horror Under Paris.

The movie follows CIA officer Matt Weston, portrayed by Reynolds, who is tasked to keep an eye on a safe house where other officers are interrogating Tobin Frost, played by Washington, a fugitive accused of betrayal.

Soon the house gets attacked by mercenaries, and Weston has no other choice but to keep sticking to his mission fleeing alongside Frost that he’s in charge of looking after. Realizing they’re being tracked down by a group of killers, Weston and Frost are forced to unite in their mission to find out who wants them both dead.

Upon its arrival in theaters back in 2012, Safe House became a box office success, garnering $208 million against the initial budget of $85 million, though it still failed to impress critics.

Many of the professionals back then stated that the movie couldn’t even be saved by Reynolds and Washington's powerful performances as Safe House was initially doomed by a bad script and bad editing of the action-packed scenes. Still, not everything was that tragic for the film as it still holds relatively good scores of 53% and 63% from critics and viewers respectively on Rotten Tomatoes.

Safe House is available for streaming on Netflix worldwide.
